i worship alone: part one

By karakaejames. Posted in Pastor's Wife Stuff | No Comments »

Hi, I’m a pastor’s wife.

A downfall of being a pastor’s wife…I sit alone.  Well, I worship alone. One of my favorite things is standing next to my hubby in worship. Mostly because he has an amazing voice and I like listening to him sing.  But my hubby is a Worship Pastor. I can’t tell you how many times people look at the poor girl sitting by herself and give me that “you poor thing look”.  Especially when they see the wedding ring.  Then they really feel sorry for me because they think I have a dead beat husband who is at home watching football instead of being at church with his wife. And add in the pregnant belly…it’s even more entertaining for me!

A pastor’s wife that I follow, recently wrote a blog about this topic.  She says that she sits on the front row b/c that is where she is most supportive of her husband.  This is not the case for me though.  Honestly, I think my hubs is way to sexy and if I sit that close, I’m more engaged in him during Worship than my #1 love.

Because, my hubby is my #2 and always will be.

I hide in the back, in the dark.  Another reason I do this, is for my husband’s sake.  He gets distracted very easily.  I fear that if I’m right in front of him I will be a distraction to him when his purpose is to lead people to the feet of Christ…not to check out his wife on the front row.  That’s just why I do it.

Pastor’s wives: what is your preference on where you sit if your hubby is an “on stage guy”?

Church Attenders: what is your honest view of pastor’s wives and how we should encourage our husbands? Seriously…I’m curious!

lets get excited!

Why don’t we get more excited about Worshipping our God?

I can’t stop watching this video. It’s so cool to see how thousands of people can come together and get so excited about something! Wouldn’t it be great if the church looked more like a Black Eyed Peas concert?

Let’s get excited about what our God is doing!!!!!!!!

charlie & phil in the OC!

By karakaejames. Posted in Random | No Comments »

Last night we had the pleasure of attending a Charlie Hall & Phil Wickham show right here in the OC! Well…Phil’s from here, but the Charlie Hall band are all from the great state of OKLAHOMA! One of my good friends from college, Quint Anderson, plays bass for Charlie.  Brook and Quint go even more “way back” than that and B is friends with most of the band.  So naturally we get the VIP treatment! WOO! We had a great time getting to see those guys and I always feel honored to be led in Worship by Charlie and his band.  Outstanding stuff. He’s one of the greats!

I just love seeing people worship. Makes me stoked for heaven.  What a party that’s gonna be.  And I bet people in heaven won’t have BO! Ha…go read the hubby’s blog for that piece of too much information :)

Check out this old pic I found of me and Quint! Man I miss that hair!!

Check out the Charlie & Phil tour and go see them if they’re near you! And get the new Charlie album The Bright Sadness.  Great stuff.

a worship critic…part 2

By karakaejames. Posted in Ministry | No Comments »

Thank you for all your input on this post.  I love hearing people’s thoughts on worship.

This guy posted a great blog a few days ago.  Good stuff!! Go read my husband’s thoughts on it as well.  I think he’s pretty great.

From your feed back on my previous post, here are some key points I got:

A Worship Leader needs to believe in what they’re doing. If it’s obvious the leader doesn’t believe it, or isn’t into it…no one else will be.  Then it turns into a bunch of people just singing together.  And that’s weird.

Purpose and Passion.  As a Worship Leader, do you have a purpose? Are you getting up on stage every Sunday because it pays the bills? If so, stop.  Go get a job at Starbucks.  You can’t lead people without a purpose and a passion for it.

A consistent heart.  On and off stage.  Talk to the people, believe me…they want to talk to you.  I’ve seen this first hand.  I’ve seen people hang around the back of the church waiting for the worship pastor to come out just to be close to them.  Be kind, reach out and love poeple.

It’s not a concert.  I like the lighting.  I like the creative videos and images.  But it’s NOT a show.  People should not be attending a worship experience for a show.  If you want a show, go to your local House of Blues.  (Like that plug for HOB?!?)

To quote the very wise Scott Rodgers.tv:  If you’re just ’singing in church’, maybe it’s time to connect His story with your story.  It’s time to express your response to what He’s done and is doing in your life.  Maybe it’s time to stop singing and start worshipping.

Get out there.  Worship with everything in you!

a worship critic

By karakaejames. Posted in Ministry | No Comments »

I’m a worship pastor’s wife.

Worship is one of my favorite things.  I remember so clearly the first time I saw my husband lead worship in the tiny little Lifechurch.tv offices in Stillwater where we held youth at the time.  I was blown away.  His passion.  His joy.  WOW.  Why don’t all Worship Leaders have THAT? At the time I didn’t know this boy, but I was moved by him.  I knew he was something special.  I didn’t know he was going to end up being the most special thing in the world to me.

worship leaderBeing a worship pastor’s wife, I’ve become skeptical of other worship leaders.  The worship leader is vital to the vibe of the whole worship experience.

There are some things that bug me about worship leaders.  There are some things that impress me.

Here are some major things I see in Worship Leaders:

1.  Worship leaders who look bored, bore me.

2.  Appearance is important.  My husband usually checks with me before he leaves the house on Sunday mornings.  I know he may not be the most “fashion savvy”, but that’s not what I mean.  If you look like you haven’t combed your hair in months, or your jeans are tighter than the pants Olivia Newton John wore in Grease…that’s just bad.

3.  Worship Leaders who don’t know their stuff bug.  How difficult is it to lead others when you’re lost yourself?

4. Using “church words” bugs me.  This is a huge deal to my hubs and me…but that’s a totally different blog.  Why use words like “sanctification and transgressions” when you have no idea what they mean yourself?

5. I love it when a worship leader is themself on stage.  I love to see passion, heart, and the hard work they put into bringing us to the feet of Jesus.

What are some things you like or dislike about Worship?

What are some great things you’ve seen in Worship Leaders?

I’ll even go this far…who is the BEST worship leader you’ve seen?? (Don’t worry, you won’t hurt my feelings if you don’t have the same favorite as me!)
