jessi's 2nd birthday: the details

JESSI'S 2ND BIRTHDAY PARTYIt's a Tea Party!

The kid's table was just a 6ft table on the floor with pillows to sit on. They loved it!

DECOR: We had a photo booth area for pictures with lots of tutus and tea hats. The kids loved dressing up and having their pictures taken. I'm bummed I didn't have more of the adults though! I used lots of streamers as "curtains" that gave it a girly feel

THE FOOD: Simple tea party finger foods! We had peanut butter & jelly and chicken salad tea sandwiches, cheese and cracker platter, strawberries with chocolate sauce. Cake pops & cookies for dessert! I loved doing the food really simple, I was stress free and not tied down to the kitchen.

THE TEA: We had an iced tea bar and a hot tea bar. The iced tea cups were my favorite!! We served sweet tea and "princess tea" (which was strawberry punch). Hot tea was just a mixture of teas. It was a hit!

We had a blast!!! I had so much fun planning this party and celebrating our sweet girl!

Coming soon...all the FUN pictures!!!!!

Jessi Girl, you are TWO!

Jessi Girl,

You are TWO today. Two years old. I can't believe how fast the past 2 years have flown by. Being your mama is the greatest joy. I will never forget the day you were placed on my chest, and grabbed my finger looking up at my face. You knew me and I was thrilled to finally see your face. You made me a mommy that day and forever changed the way I look at life.

You have always been an overachiever. I'm so proud of how quickly you pick up on things and how smart you are. You are crazy smart! Your vocabulary blows me away, and it's so fun being able to communicate so well with you.

Your joy for life is contagious. You are so excited to walk outside and see the trees and the flowers and every little thing! You skip through life without a care in the world, but have such a sensitive heart. You are the perfect big sister. You take such good care of Zoey, and love her so much. You adore meeting new babies and playing "mama". I'm so thankful God made you the firstborn, because it's the perfect role for you!

When you around a group of people you become really shy and quiet. It takes you a bit to warm up, but eventually you come out of your shell. I'm thankful for your cautious nature, but also for your willingness to try new things.

Your favorite things are playing at the park and meeting new "friends!". Every time we go play you yell "hi friends!!!!" and get so excited. You go down the big slides now and run with the big kids! Every day you ask to go to the store. You love walking around and looking at things, and of course Target is your favorite!

We have been potty training for a little over a week and you are doing amazing! We gave you a new big girl bed and you rocked that too. It's so fun to watch you turn into a little girl. We are so proud of you and love to give you new privileges for being so amazing! Daddy is your absolute favorite person in the world and you are happiest when he is home wrestling with you!

I love you so much my sweet girl. I thank God for you every day and the amazing blessing you are to me and your daddy. You fill our home with laughter, joy and it's a total blast being your mommy! Year 3 is going to be so much fun!

Happy Birthday, Munchkin!

Love, Mommy

Jessi Girl, where are you from?

We always want Jessi to remember where she was born and raised

(well...for the first 8 months of her life...)

She's got it down!!

In 3 days this beautiful baby girl turns TWO. We are lying to her (oops) and telling her tomorrow is her birthday because Daddy has the whole day off and has to work all day on her actual birthday. It's not like she knows anyway, right? :)

So excited to celebrate her!!!

potty training: day three

DAY THREE

Reinforce, reward and reinforce

Wow, that went significantly better. She is such a stubborn kid, and wants to do everything at her own pace. That was the hardest thing for me. I've always let her do the potty thing because she's been interested, but now that we are full on training I felt the need to take the lead a bit more. I encouraged her every 10 minutes and I think that got really annoying. Oops :)

I hope you're sitting down because this is big news....NO ACCIDENTS ALL MORNING!!!!! None. For 4 hours, we kept dry undies! I was so thrilled for her!

Oh, but two accidents in the evening. One of which she was standing over a floor vent. That will smell yummy when the air comes on. Wow.

Because she filled her first potty chart, she got a prize. Her first prize was a sucker and to watch a movie. She's still trying to figure out the concept of the reward chart, because after she got that she thought a sucker came after every potty. Ha! I think for her next prize she'll get a new toy. And by new toy, I'll dig in the back of the toy cabinet for something she forgot she has ;)

It's been really hard work and incredibly frustrating at times, but she's getting the hang of it. We are going to keep it up, and I'll update you in a week or so of how she's doing!! Thanks for all the advice and encouragement.

potty training: day one

Well, we took the plunge yesterday. A little over a month ago, Jessi decided she loved going potty. She had always done really well about using the potty, but it was as if one day she decided that's what she wanted to do.  I assumed that was her way of telling me she was ready to potty train. Then she cut two molars and it was haaaaaaaard.

Then my house was infected with the plague (aka the flu).

So she went a few weeks with barely touching the potty. A couple days ago, she became interested again so I decided to just go for it. We have been having gorgeous weather and going to the park almost every day, but next week we are supposed to have tons of rain. Perfect! We are stuck inside anyway, might as well hang out on the potty!

Here is our potty adventure. Please keep in mind that this is the process that works for US. It may not work for you!

DAY ONE:

The Introduction of Panties

She was very nervous about them at first. She is a super cautious kid and new things kinda freak her out. I promised her a treat if she would just try them on, so of course she was on board. Once she had the on, she loved them!! She looked at herself in the mirror and giggled and giggled. And I love that I can squeeze those little cheeks!

We had about 5 accidents, but also lots of successful potty pee pees. The good outnumbered the bad, so we'll put today in the win column. She didn't poo (she doesn't every day), and that's the accident I'm dreading because she's never been a fan of going poo poo in the potty. It didn't really bother her at first if she wet herself, but after a few times I kinda noticed she was not liking it as much.

She has a potty treat jar in the bathroom and every time she goes she gets one treat (chocolate teddy grahams). That little stinker tricked me too. She convinced me that Rupert (her bff, a stuffed monkey) needed a potty treat too, and she got two! Smart little punk.

We decided to skip pull ups, and go straight to panties. We are doing a bit of a slow method (that we created on our own) to ease her into it. It fits her personality, and hopefully will work well for her. So we do about 3-4 hours in the morning, put a diaper on for naptime and then another 3 hours or so before bed. This gives her a good chance to get used to the process but still go about her life. I do have another tiny child to care for afterall! :)

She adjusted well to the panties and I think she really liked them! Gosh, she looked so grown up wearing them too!

Day two we'll introduce the potty chart and talk rewards!! Woo! Stay tuned!
