The time has come! It's time to begin our Advent Journey! I've been planning and anticipating this day for many months and it's an honor to walk through this with so many families. If you are joining us in this exciting journey, welcome! I can't wait to walk with you in teaching our children about the meaning of Christmas!
WHAT IS ADVENT?
If you're like me, I grew up not really knowing what Advent meant. It wasn't something I really even learned about until about 5 years ago. So maybe you're seeing the word "Advent" pop up all over the place and you're clueless what it's actually about? Let me tell you! Advent is a season celebrated by many Western Christians churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. The term is an anglicized version of the Latin word "adventus", meaning "coming". There are many ways to celebrate Advent: with gifts, lighting of candles, fasting and more.
We chose to do a season of activities and teaching so young children can learn about the true meaning of Christmas in a fun and interactive way. Yes, our advent journey will be filled with a lot of fun but let's keep our focus on the true meaning: the gift of a savior.
JOIN US IN OUR JOURNEY
Our calendar focuses on family, creating, learning, serving and most importantly JESUS! The activities are mostly geared for children ages 2-8 and we've given you the flexibility to do them to fit your schedule and family dynamic.
If you purchased our Advent Activity Pack - the information needed is all included in your pack. We left the cards and envelopes unnumbered so that you can move the days around if needed, but we would love if you would follow the schedule with a huge community of families! I used a stencil and red sharpie to put the days on the outside of my envelopes, so feel free to label them if you would like!
The printable version of our calendar is still available in our shop for purchase. If you would like to use envelopes, twine and clothespins you can purchase them at any craft store. It's not too late to join us! The printable version also includes the daily reading plan.
