milestones vs. maintenance

How often do you get so caught up in the "maintenance" of life, that you miss out on the big milestones? We are focused on the daily tasks. The cleaning, cooking, laundry, diaper changing, nap time maintenance of every day life. It becomes a vicious cycle, doesn't it? Sometimes I feel like it's a black hole. Every day seems the same. A never ending vortex of the exact same thing. It's the same fights every day. The same messes. The same burnt dinner because you were busy breaking up that fight and cleaning up that mess. But what if we focused in on the milestones? The precious milestones. The picture worthy, hold near to your heart moments. The ones that take your breath away, that remind you why you do what you do and make the maintenance something you are grateful for. The trip to the grocery store when everyone didn't fall to pieces. The time your kids read a book together and it didn't end up ripped down the middle. The cup of coffee you finished without reheating. The post-nap giggles. The sleepy bedtime snuggles.

Are you living for the milestones or for the maintenance?  Stop today to focus on the milestones. Watch how it changes your outlook on your day. On your life.

What are some of the milestones of your week so far? Here's a few of mine!
