are you staying available?

I feel like one of our biggest problems as a culture is the way we schedule ourselves. OVER schedule ourselves. We feel like we aren't good parents if we don't have each child in 2-3 activities, and then preschool for the two year old and at least one activity per night. It really scares me for what the next generation will be like and how rushed they will be because of the way we are raising them in this fast paced, always busy culture. Sometimes I really wish I had been around before this modern culture to raise my kids. Or that we lived in another place that wasn't so "busy". I want to be able to just pick up the phone and tell a friend I'm on my way over. Or walk out my front door and my neighbors be gathered around chatting, because that's just normal.

Why can't we be a culture that is available?Β  Why is everything rushed? Everything over-done, over-planned, over-scheduled?

I hope that I can teach my kids that it's ok to live a slower paced life. That having a free evening is not a bad thing. I want to be the family that can always jump up when someone needs something because we ARE available. I want our friends, our community to know that we will always be there. Always available.

Are you available? How can you be intentional about loving those around you if you're too busy? 31daysblog
