a birthday keepsake

I really wanted to have a keepsake for Munchkin's first birthday, and a friend of mine introduced me to a local place called Unpluggits. We went and fell in love! If you are an Okie, go check it out! If not, just enjoy our fun pictures and be jealous :) They do awesome ceramic work for kiddos. We went in, and the sweetest employee helped us through the process of painting a plate. We picked out the colors we wanted, and had all the supplies we needed. Since I'm not the craftiest person, I stayed very simple.

My main goal was to get a hand print from Jessi Girl...which turned out being more difficult than expected! If you mess up on a ceramic, you have to scrape the paint off to start over. Well, we had to start over about 8 times before we finally got a decent print. She just wanted to play in the paint and was mad at me for forcing her hand down on the plate. So just be prepared if you do this with a one year old - it's not as easy as it looks! (but SO worth it!)

Attempting the hand print:

Mom, can I just play in the paint??

Seriously, do NOT make me do this again!

We got about 10 of these smeared hand prints before finally getting a good one. Stubborn girl.

Um, hi cuteness.

The finished product:

I love it. It's not perfect, and it's obvious that a 1 year old was very much a part. But that's exactly why I love it. I will cherish this forever...or until she throws it on the floor and smashes it into a thousand pieces.
