Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's overalls and Doc Martens. (Pretty sure that's biblical, right?) I'd like to introduce you to 17-year-old Kara-Kae.

This picture was taken after:

1) Spending entirely too much time in a tanning bed. Please add my skin to your prayer lists.

2) I had just attempted my first (and only) box hair color. My mom was not happy about that (sorry mom!) red highlight situation.

3) I received the most rad pair of Doc Marten boots ever. (Thanks mom, again sorry about the hair!) Oh, the things I wish I could tell this girl. How her 30's would be even better than her 20's. How life would be more wonderful than she ever imagined. How it would have been harder than she could have dreamed. And maybe to cut back a little on the carbs in college.

SHARE TIME -- tell me about 17 year old you. What were you into? Were you as stylish as me (DOUBT IT)? Don't worry, there's also a senior picture of me posing with my Bible. We'll save that for another day.
Marriage is weird, isn’t it? We are about to enter year 12, and in so many ways I would say that we’re starting to find our stride but in other ways, we have a long way to go. We are still learning how to communicate, how to work together, and the whole raising kids together thing is…interesting.

I don’t want to post one more mushy gushy Valentine post to fill your feed today, and honestly, that’s just not me anyway. So I’ll leave you with this -- know that marriage can be hard and wonderful at the same time. If you’re not feeling loved or seen today, that’s really okay. Your husband is not the source of your identity. He's human and not meant to fulfill your every need. He is your partner in discovering your identity in Christ. Cherish your spouse, give thanks for them, but remember they are not your everything and shouldn't be.
What’s your inner battle? Where do you find yourself struggling in motherhood or in your marriage? I’m a perfectionist (Enneagram 1)🙋🏼‍♀️. I want everything in order and I struggle when things don’t fall in order (or my children don’t fall in line) the way I plan.

Every time I feel myself overwhelmed by the chaos I whisper to myself “they are kids, enjoy this” and try to remember the importance of what I’m really doing. Or when my husband leaves his socks on the floor again (bless him) I pause to be grateful for what those socks represent.

So tell me — what’s your inner battle? Sometimes hearing that we aren’t alone in our daily struggles can help us thrive in the chaos (it sure helps me!!). And then I want to challenge you to consider something you can do today to combat your struggle! Maybe it’s a little pep talk to yourself or a simple reminder of truth (and remembering YOU ARE LOVED!). Share the battle you’re fighting today 👇🏼
So many emotions and feelings go into Sunday mornings as a Pastor’s wife. I want to look put together and enter the doors of our church with a smile on my face, but I’ve typically spent 90% of the morning frustrated with herding my kids and arguing with them about who-knows-what.

Just know that we are all struggling. Those on stage, behind the scenes, and those dragging themselves in the door 20 minutes late. There’s grace for all of us. Even for the child with the sassiest attitude of them all 😏 #sundayjamesgang
Raise your hand if you started the year with the BEST of intentions, buuuuuuuuut lost steam somewhere around February 1? It's okay. You're still doing great. Keep up the good work, friends. 👏🏽👏🏽
It’s time to do your homework. February is here. Black History Month. Now let’s be honest — it shouldn’t just take place in February but if you need a place to start, this is it.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite resources in my stories so be sure and stop by there. But if you want just one book, this one is fabulous.

Now like every good teacher who hands out homework (JK, I would literally be the world’s worst teacher) tell me something you’ve learned about Black History that has changed you. 👇🏽 #blackhistorymonth
Pull up a seat, friend. This is a story of grace in the midst of motherhood. An offering of hope when you’re at the end of your rope.

Are you looking for another “you’ve got this, girl” message? Well, this isn’t it 🤣 Because let’s be real...we are nothing without Jesus. And we don’t got this without Him and the grace He gives each day. That may not be a popular or best seller message, but I’ll stand by it.

Want to read Mom Up with a community of women? The @thrivemoms online book club starts Monday! Grab your copy this weekend and dig in! #momupbook
Is it the weekend yet?! I’d give up just about anything to be drinking coffee with my favorite boy and soaking in a lazy weekend. I’ve been thinking a lot about how I spend my “down time”. Do you rest well? I feel like I’m constantly going and don’t take time to really rest the way I need to. But I find rest and connection in these little key, pockets of time with my kids.

How do you find time to slow down and connect? What do you do in those little pockets of time you can soak in with your kids? Conversation and (fake or real) coffee? Trips to Target? What is special for you?

Share below 👇🏼
You are more than a cook, a chauffeur, or a maid. You are doing really important work.

It’s called support. And yes, I’m already living my best life in 2019. Who’s with me?! 👏🏽
When the sun is super bright but you gotta stop for that #sundayjamesgang shot before church, because no donuts until you smile! 🍩
Our world is bonkers. Like completely lost it’s mind insane. But there’s hope, friends. Jesus is the hope of the world and we can be the light in the darkness. In our own little ways, let’s humbly walk out justice and show merciful love. These words are printed on a huge sign in our living room, and I pray every day they sink in to our kids (and us). Let’s be world changers. ❤️

I don’t share this journey with you to brag about this little book, but because of the words on the pages that I truly believe can be a giant bear hug for you and lift you out of your dark places. It’s for the tired and weary mama who is struggling just like I am. And so much of this story is the gospel breathed over motherhood, and isn’t that something we all need? I sure do.

The @thrivemoms community is hosting an online book club, I’d love to have you join us so you don’t have to read alone! Info over at @thrivemoms.
