i worship alone: part one
By karakaejames. Posted in Pastor's Wife Stuff | No Comments »Hi, I’m a pastor’s wife.
A downfall of being a pastor’s wife…I sit alone. Well, I worship alone. One of my favorite things is standing next to my hubby in worship. Mostly because he has an amazing voice and I like listening to him sing. But my hubby is a Worship Pastor. I can’t tell you how many times people look at the poor girl sitting by herself and give me that “you poor thing look”. Especially when they see the wedding ring. Then they really feel sorry for me because they think I have a dead beat husband who is at home watching football instead of being at church with his wife. And add in the pregnant belly…it’s even more entertaining for me!
A pastor’s wife that I follow, recently wrote a blog about this topic. She says that she sits on the front row b/c that is where she is most supportive of her husband. This is not the case for me though. Honestly, I think my hubs is way to sexy and if I sit that close, I’m more engaged in him during Worship than my #1 love.
Because, my hubby is my #2 and always will be.
I hide in the back, in the dark. Another reason I do this, is for my husband’s sake. He gets distracted very easily. I fear that if I’m right in front of him I will be a distraction to him when his purpose is to lead people to the feet of Christ…not to check out his wife on the front row. That’s just why I do it.
Pastor’s wives: what is your preference on where you sit if your hubby is an “on stage guy”?
Church Attenders: what is your honest view of pastor’s wives and how we should encourage our husbands? Seriously…I’m curious!

Great post Kara Kae! Can I call you KK? I have been dying to do that lately and I don’t even know you that well. LOL! Anyway, I am really curious to see what others say. I sit in the front. I do it to encourage him (because for whatever reason NO ONE likes to sit in the front….u know the best seat in the house?) and I can get distracted if I see over everyone else and they start doing something. I lose focus!

Well Matt isn’t a worship pastor, but I go to our Young Marrieds Sunday School class alone since Matt is a Sunday School teacher….It’s not bad because everyone knows where he is, but I can totally see how it would be awkward if they didn’t know! I never thought about our Pastor’s wife and how she sits alone… Such a good point! thanks friend

Well, you know where I sit. But I love that you sit in the back. And I love your reasons! If Jud actually were able to sit with me through a whole service, he would want to sit in the back row!

I just love reading your blog! My hubby is a youth pastor so I still get to sit by him during “big” church.
But, during youth I usually sit in the back with some students. Lots of time I will ask new students what grade they are in and they will ask me the same. lol One day, far in the future, I’m sure I will have to sit alone and I can’t see myself being a front row gal, but we will see! Such an interesting topic. Never really thought about it before. Thanks!

Being a minister and a minister’s wife, I don’t think I’ve sat next to Todd since 2005, until the last few months (I’m no longer on staff anywhere). As a staff member, I preferred to sit near the back for a few reasons. Mainly, it was so I could be accessible and I could leave early to prep for my next group of kids. It was also about being able to worship privately (it’s slightly darker in the back and I can sing at the top of my lungs without being concerned that I’m a distraction). Now, since we’ve been at our new church, I sit in the front. Not because I like to, but because it’s easy for Todd to slip off stage and sit next to me during the service, and we’ve grown so much that I’d rather give the comfortable back seat to a new attender. Now, when baby girl is here– I’m sure I’ll be sitting closer to the nursery, or at least a door where I can slip out if she starts fussing!

this was one of the hardest adjustments of being married to a church staff person – don’t think i’ve really ever gotten used to it. what makes it worse is when you kids thinj you smell and won’t sit with you either. i’m blessed that my youngest hangs with me still in worship – his company is sweet.
i would tell you that after 20 yrs or so of doing this that you’ll get used to it – but i never have
but—- you do already have the answer. we may miss #2, but we worship #1 indeed.
thanks for the reminder, and you make a beautiful mom-to-be!
