birthday weekend celebrations!

By karakaejames. Posted in Our life! | No Comments »

We had a great weekend celebrating the hubby’s birthday! How about a little recap?

Friday, August 28 (Actual Birthday) — After I got off work we hit up some Red Robin for our favorite burgers with some friends.  Then Brook & I went to HOB for some dessert, and to see a friend who was playing there that night.  Our friend ended up not showing up until right before the show started so we didn’t actually get to see him other than on stage for a few minutes.  We were (mostly I… and the belly) were exhausted so we headed home!

Saturday, August 29– I planned a little “birthday fun surprise” for Brook, and took him Kayaking at Newport Harbor. It was a blast! We did a little kayaking in Israel, and this was a little different and much more relaxing…for me at least.  I played the “preggo card” and let him do most of the work while I just enjoyed it :) We saw lots of fish, seals/sea lions (we weren’t sure which they were…).  It was fun to get out and enjoy a different part of Orange County we hadn’t experienced before.  Then we cooked some steaks and ate more red meat than I think I’ve ever eaten in one sitting!

Getting ready to go!(If you look closely…you can see the little baby bump!!)Birthday Boy Kayaking!

This is super cool….look how close we got to the seals/sea lions! One even jumped out of the water right in front of the kayak!

Sunday, August 30–  DEF LEPPARD!!!!!! Brook has been so looking forward to this show, and especially after Aerosmith got cancelled last weekend.  It was an AWESOME show.  Nothing beats 80’s rock! Plus, the people watching is outstanding.

Plus… I think the baby really enjoyed his/her first concert!

Def Leppard

I was a little confused by what he meant by “rock faces picture” apparently…Rock faces!

We had a GREAT weekend!!! Happy Birthday baby!

happy birthday hubby!

By karakaejames. Posted in Marriage thoughts, Our life! | No Comments »

Today my hubby turns 29! Wow…we’re getting old.  Except he still acts like he’s 14, so life is still quite fun.  It’s our last birthday before the kid arrives, so I guess we better enjoy not having to pay for a babysitter!

Last year I listed out 28 reasons why I love my husband on his birthday.  I still love him for all those reasons, but this year I’m pregnant and frankly EXAHUSTED.  I love him for being the most amazing husband in the world and for how he’s taken care of me so well in the last 3 months of carrying this child! What a keeper!

Happy Birthday Baby! I hope it’s a great one for you!

Let’s start from the beginning.  Ok…maybe not the beginning, you all know how a baby is made.  And if you don’t,  then go ask your mommy.

I’ve basically been suffering from baby fever since the day we said “I do”.  I wasn’t able to take birth control due to the fact it made me crazy, so it has been a waiting game for us for the last year and a half anyway.  We weren’t “trying”, but we weren’t being careful? Yeah, you get the point.

Well around the beginning of summer, the fever hit HARD, and we went on a trip to Israel with our friends and family.  And like many people are asking, no this isn’t an Israel baby…but VERY close. Literally days after returning! Must have been something in the Jordan River!

Fast forward to 4th of July Weekend — I wasn’t feeling very “normal” and decided it was time to take a test.  I took one on Sunday morning, and it was slightly positive.  It was a dollar store test, and I had gotten a false positive about a year ago so I didn’t trust it.  Monday morning (July 6th) I woke up at my normal 6:45 am and decided it was time to test again.  I still can’t believe I waited a whole day! This time we were VERY positive.  So I pulled out the digital test I had been saving for this very occasion…and it looked like this:

A positive test!

Brook had stumbled out of bed to go to the bathroom about the time I had gotten my “YES+”, and I was still slightly in a state of shock and had to figure out how to awake my sleep walking husband to tell him the news.  I’m not sure exactly what I said, but somehow I got the news across to him.  He stayed up with me for a while and we planned out the kids future, then I allowed him to go back to sleep (it was his day off).

That night we skyped with my parents in Oklahoma and Brook’s parents who were in Seattle in transit to Alaska.  Kinda ironic that the day Brook’s parents moved to Alaska was the day we found out we were adding to our family.  How’s that for God’s sense of humor?!?

Here we are, 2 months later and I’m so thankful we can share our news and tell the world how excited we are to be parents!!

MUCH more to come on our little one!!

taking a break

By karakaejames. Posted in About this blog | No Comments »

In case you hadn’t quite figured it out…. I’ve taken a little “blogging break”. There are so many new and exciting things going on with us, and I’ve shifting my focus for a bit. Not to worry, I will return! And probably sooner rather than later!

So stick around, I promise the wait will be WELL worth it!

This is how my dog takes a break:

dreaming for bigger things

By karakaejames. Posted in Ministry | No Comments »

dreams

As children we are told to reach for the stars, to dream big.  Our parents tell us we can be anything we want to be.  We dream of being firefighters, doctors, princesses, and knights.  We daydream all day about what it will be like to get big.

Why does this stop? Why when we get older do we stop dreaming? Why are we constantly told to come back to reality?

No, I don’t think we should still be playing dress up and acting like a princess (unless of course that’s REALLY what you aspire to do).  I think our dreams should change as we do.  Being in ministry, my husband and I like to dream big for what is ahead for us and new and better ways to reach people.  We don’t like being tied down to “standards” and the “way things should be done”.  I don’t think that’s how Christ calls us to dream and to live.

Keep dreaming big.  Keep reaching for the stars! We CAN change the world for the better.

Ok, I’m going to find my princess crown.

2 years!

By karakaejames. Posted in Our life! | No Comments »

Two years ago today the greatest man I’ve ever known told me how much he loved me and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.  Then he gave me a beautiful ring.  So I said yes ;)

The time really flies! Being married to him is the greatest joy and the most fun! It’s been an incredible journey and I’m so excited about all that lies ahead for us!

The proposal!

I said YES!

I love you baby!! Thanks for being mine!
